The São Paulo guitarist and vocalist who helped shape Brazilian metal's international sound.
For a sense of his writing in Angra, 'Faded' is a good place to start. His solo track 'Gentle Change' shows another side.
Bittencourt was there when Angra formed in 1991, and his guitar work and songwriting helped define their mix of heavy metal with Brazilian folk and classical touches. You can hear that blend on early albums like 'Angels Cry' and 'Holy Land', and in songs he wrote like 'Faded'. That distinct approach gave the band a real foothold in the global metal scene.
He helped start Angra in São Paulo with André Matos and Kiko Loureiro, and has written material across their catalog from the 1993 debut onward. Outside the band, he's put out solo tracks like 'Gentle Change' and kept playing in Brazil's metal circles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
