Rafael Emilio started making music in the late 1990s with his debut album 'Eclipse Total.' He's a Dominican singer-songwriter from Santo Domingo who works with Caribbean rhythms like merengue, salsa, and bachata.
His 1999 album 'Toque de India' included the title track that became an international hit. Other albums followed, including 'Amor de Madre' in 2002, 'Desde el Alma' in 2006, and 'La Leyenda' in 2011.
Some of his better-known songs are 'Pedra Branca,' 'Menina Bahia,' and 'Felicidade.' In 2006, he faced criticism after remarks at a concert in Venezuela led to accusations of racism, though he continued performing afterward.
