Rafael Sá came up in São Gonçalo, Brazil, and started writing songs as a teenager. His first album, Começo, came out in 2006. A few years later, the single Santa Comunhão got some attention for its straightforward faith-based lyrics. That led to a second album called Tudo o Que Você Quiser in 2010.
He's put out a few more records since then, including De Volta ao Amor in 2014 and Som de Amor in 2018. Some of his other songs, like Santa Rita, Abençoai and Senhor, Que Nos Enviais, have a similar plainspoken, devotional quality.
In 2012, Sá made a public statement against same-sex marriage that stirred up some debate. He said his position came from his religious convictions. The episode didn't stop him from recording, but it did color how some listeners heard his music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
