Rafaeu formed in Salvador, Brazil in 2016 with Felipe Guedes on vocals and guitar, Peu Souza on percussion, Vini Rosa on bass, and Felipe Abreu on keyboard. Their sound pulls from Afro-Brazilian rhythms and reggae, with a pop sensibility that caught on fairly quickly.
In 2018 they put out 'Abacateiro,' a single that climbed the Brazilian charts and became something of a summer anthem. It's still one of their most recognizable tracks, along with 'ASTRONAUTA' and 'SURREAL.' They followed it with the albums 'Som da Bahia' in 2019 and 'Infinito Particular' in 2021.
Around 2020 there were some plagiarism claims about 'Abacateiro,' though those were eventually dismissed. The band kept working, with Guedes handling most of the songwriting and Souza's percussion driving their live energy.
