Rafet El Roman

Rafet El Roman grew up in İskenderun, a coastal town in Turkey. He started singing early, finding music as an outlet during a childhood marked by his parents' divorce and financial strain. Those personal experiences would later surface in his songwriting, which often dealt directly with love and loss.

In the early 2000s, his music began attracting attention, though not all of it was positive. His lyrics could be outspoken and his style unconventional, which drew criticism from some quarters. He released albums like "Sorma Neden" in 2004 and "Sıradan" in 2006, building a catalog that included songs like "Unuturum Elbet" and "Aşk-ı Virane." The latter was a collaboration with İbrahim Tatlıses.

He worked with other Turkish artists too, including Murat Boz on "Yalan" and Gülşen on "Unuturum Elbet." His music earned him awards, including a Golden Butterfly Award for Best Turkish Pop Artist. While his career had its controversies, his straightforward approach to themes of heartache and social observation connected with a substantial audience.
