Their debut album 'Corais do Caribe' came out in 1996, with the title track becoming one of their best-known songs. The band's sound draws from Brazilian traditions like samba, reggae, and axé, using instruments like the berimbau and atabaque alongside more contemporary elements.
Carlinhos Maracanã and Jurandir Oliveira have remained constant members through various lineup changes. Other songs in their catalog include 'Alpercata de Rabicho,' 'Baque do Tambor,' and 'De Olinda a Salvador.' They've released eight studio albums between 1996 and 2014, including 'Cheiro de Amor' in 2000 and 'Samba Reggae' in 2002.
In 2003, the band was involved in a legal dispute over song rights. They've also received some criticism for occasional vulgar language in their lyrics. Their music has won awards including the Prêmio Multishow de Música Brasileira in 2000 and 2002.
