Archive material and source history
Rainbirds formed in 1981 with John Richards on vocals and guitar, Scott Taylor on bass, and Steve Shelley on drums. Their first album came out in 1983, simply called 'The Rainbirds.' The next year, they released 'Blueprint,' which included the song of the same name that got some radio play. They put out two more albums before stopping in 1990: 'Call Me Up' in 1987 and 'In the Shadow of the Sun' in 1990.
Their songs like 'Todos Contentos Y Yo Tambien,' 'Mystery Train,' and 'A Waltz For Jane' show a mix of indie rock and post-punk sounds. They were known for being outspoken in their lyrics, which sometimes put them at odds with mainstream listeners.
After they disbanded, their music stayed around in alternative rock circles. Some later bands mentioned being influenced by them, but Rainbirds themselves never reformed. Their catalog, especially tracks like 'Oblivion Seekers/Here To Go' and 'Pebbles In My Hand,' still gets played by fans who remember that era.
