Rainbow formed in 1975 when guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, fresh from Deep Purple, teamed up with vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Their first album, 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow,' came out that same year. It didn't sell huge numbers, but it set the stage for what came next.
Their second album, 'Rainbow Rising,' arrived in 1976 and featured the song 'Stargazer.' That track, along with others like 'Ariel' and 'Cold Hearted Woman,' helped push the band toward a heavier, more epic sound. The lineup around this time included drummer Cozy Powell and bassist Bob Daisley.
Dio left in 1983 and was replaced by Joe Lynn Turner, who sang on albums like 'Bent Out of Shape.' The band's sound shifted through these later records, moving through hard rock and more radio-friendly material before eventually winding down. They released a final live collection, 'Finyl Vinyl,' in 1986.
