Their songs, like 'Breakfast of Champions' and 'Atlantic,' often had an atmospheric quality built around De Marrais's vocals and intricate guitar work. The lyrics tended toward introspection, dealing with personal themes that gave the music a vulnerable edge.
In 1998, De Marrais was diagnosed with cancer, and the band's later work reflected that period. They broke up in 2004, leaving behind a catalog that resonated with a particular indie rock audience for its emotional directness and textured sound.
