Archive material and source history
Raiz da Flor formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2004, bringing together musicians with a shared interest in Brazilian musical traditions. The group includes Gilberto Gil Moreira on vocals and guitar, Preta Gil on vocals and percussion, Bem Gil on bass, José Gil Moreira on drums, and Flor Gil on vocals and multiple instruments.
Their first album came out in 2005, followed by several more over the next decade. They released a live recording in 2013. One of their songs is called "Amo."
They've worked with a straightforward approach to Brazilian rhythms, avoiding the more polished production common in some contemporary pop. The band's sound stays close to its roots without trying to reinvent them.
