A short-lived Japanese group from the late '80s that made upbeat anime theme songs.
If you only know one, it's 'Yapappa.' For their playful side, try 'Koi Da! Panikku' from the top songs list.
They gave us 'Yapappa' in 1989, a track that still turns up on anime compilations today. Yōko Ishida's vocals over Keiji Muramatsu's guitar made it one of the more memorable theme songs from that era. Songs like 'Olvida La Amargura (Opening 1)' and 'Baka Song' showed they could do straightforward pop-rock and goofy fun in equal measure.
The band formed in 1989, named after the anime, and put out two albums back-to-back. They were done recording by 1992, but 'Yapappa' kept their name alive in fan circles long after.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
