Raphael Calais formed in 2015 around vocalist and songwriter Raphael Tristão, with guitarist Luís Santos, bassist Pedro Silva, and drummer Vasco Ribeiro. Their debut album 'Maré Alta' came out the following year, and its lead single 'A Ilha' became a fan favorite. The band's lineup has seen some changes, with Ribeiro leaving in 2019 and being replaced by João Silva.
They followed up with albums in 2018 and 2021, titled 'Longe' and 'O Tempo Entre Nós'. Songs like 'Uma e Trinta' and 'A Música Favorita da Minha Prima Natália' show their continued work in Portuguese music. In 2017, Tristão faced plagiarism accusations from another musician, though these were eventually dismissed.
