A Brazilian reggae band that started in Salvador and found a wider audience with songs like 'Tô Ligando'.
For a feel of their sound, 'Menina Sapeca' and 'Medo de Sofrer' frame it well. They're straightforward, no frills.
They came out of Salvador in the early 2000s playing small venues, but 'Tô Ligando' broke through and got them heard across Brazil. Their music includes tracks like 'Não Aguento Solidão' and 'Menina Sapeca', and they've worked with names like Damian Marley. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being too political, which kept things interesting.
They formed around vocalist Emmerson Villa Nova and bassist Marcelo Bahia. Albums like 'Reggae do Gueto' in 2005 and 'Resistência' in 2012 marked their shifts, and the group continues with Emmerson involved.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
