Background notes

Archive material and source history

Rasta Tchê formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2000, with an original lineup that included vocalist Falcão, guitarist Tchê, bassist Magrão, drummer Álvaro, and keyboardist Vinny. Their debut album came out in 2003, titled 'Só Quero te Amar' after its lead single. That song, a straightforward love ballad with a reggae rhythm, connected with listeners across Brazil and gave the band its first real attention.

Falcão left the band in 2005 and was replaced by vocalist Japa. A couple of years later, in 2007, the group faced accusations of plagiarism over their song 'Reggae de Consolação,' which some said borrowed heavily from a composition by musician Jorge Aragão. The band denied it, but the claim stuck around. They kept releasing albums after their debut, including 'Positividade' in 2005, 'O Canto da Natureza' in 2008, and 'Um Novo Tempo' in 2010.
