Ray Star formed in Mexico City in 2004, started by brothers Erik and Juan Carlos Padilla with their cousin José Luis Rivera. They later added Alejandro Mora on keyboards and accordion around 2010. Their sound pulled from traditional Mexican music and boleros, with some contemporary rock mixed in.
Their 2008 song "Ahí Te Dejo Mis Abrazos" became their most recognizable track, a ballad that connected with listeners. They released several albums including "Corazón de Ciudad" in 2006 and "No Me Digas Que No" in 2012.
In 2012, the song "No Me Digas Que No" drew some criticism for its lyrics about infidelity and betrayal, though it also found commercial success. The band kept recording through at least 2016 with "Un Beso Más."
