Archive material and source history

Ray Thomas was a British musician who played flute and sang for The Moody Blues. He joined the band in 1964, around the time they were moving from their early R&B sound toward something more orchestral and psychedelic. His flute work became a recognizable part of their style, especially on albums like 'Days of Future Passed' from 1967 and 'In Search of the Lost Chord' from 1968.

He also wrote and sang lead on some of their material. One of his songs for the band, 'You Make Me Feel Alright,' appears on their 1969 album 'On the Threshold of a Dream.' Other songs credited to him include 'Adam And I' and 'Carousel.'

Thomas stayed with The Moody Blues through various lineup changes and periods of activity, appearing on records into the 2000s like 'Strange Times' in 1999 and 'December' in 2003. He was part of the core group alongside Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Graeme Edge, and Mike Pinder for many of their classic late-60s and early-70s albums.
