Editor's note

Red's Nashville rock with melodic hooks

A Nashville hard rock band that's kept recording through lineup changes since 2002.

If you're checking them out, "Break Me Down" and "Part That's Holding On" give you a pretty good sense of what they do. They're straightforward rock songs with some weight to them.

Red's been putting out albums for over twenty years now, and they've got a sound that sticks to hard rock fundamentals while letting some melody through. Songs like "Break Me Down" show how they balance that rock energy with the kind of hooks that keep things from getting too heavy. They're not reinventing the wheel, but they've built a catalog that works for fans who want that specific blend.

They formed in Nashville in 2002 and released their first album, End of Silence, in 2006. After drummer Joe Rickard left in 2013, they kept going with Matt Hansen and have put out records like Gone, Declaration, and Beyond the Sun.

Red formed in Nashville in 2002 with Michael Barnes on vocals, Anthony Armstrong on guitar, Randall Benton on bass, and Joe Rickard on drums. They put out their first album, End of Silence, in 2006.

Joe Rickard left the band in 2013, and Matt Hansen took over on drums. They've kept releasing albums since then, including Gone in 2017, Declaration in 2019, and Beyond the Sun in 2023. Some of their songs, like "Already Over" and "Falling Sky," show their mix of rock energy and melodic hooks.

They've put out eight studio albums total, working mostly in that hard rock space with some heavier touches. The lineup changes haven't stopped them from recording, and they still play shows with Barnes fronting the band.
