Red Box

Red Box was a London band that formed in the late 1980s around Simon Toulson-Clarke on vocals, Julian Close on keyboards, and Paul Ferguson on drums. They're best remembered for their debut single "Billy's Line," which got heavy radio play and became an instant hit. That song's success created expectations that later singles like "For America" couldn't quite match.

They released a handful of albums in the late '80s and early '90s, including The Circle and the Square in 1989 and Motown in 1990. Their sound had a particular groove to it, heard on tracks like "Chenko" and "Heart of the Sun," with Toulson-Clarke's vocals giving it a distinctive character.

They kept recording through the mid-'90s with albums like Crazytown before fading from the mainstream. "Billy's Line" is the track that still gets played, a reminder of that brief moment when their groove caught on.
