Red Zebra formed in Belgium in 1978 with Peter Slabbynck on vocals and guitar, Patrick De Groote on guitar, Dirk Timmermans on bass, and Marc Meersman on drums. Their early sound pulled from Iggy Pop and The Velvet Underground, landing them in the post-punk scene of the early 1980s. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1981, featuring the single "Can't Live In a Living Room."
That debut record and its follow-ups, like 1983's "A Truth For a Lie," carried angular guitar work and lyrics that could turn introspective or pointed. The band's live shows were known for their intensity. They took a break in 1989 but returned a decade later to play shows and release the album "Under the Sun" in 1999.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
