Registro de Macêdo formed in Maceió with four musicians: Leandro Almeida, Daniel Magalhães, Paulo Rodrigues, and Marcelinho Moreira. They released their first album in 1998 and followed with several others, including Nação Sem Nome in 2002 and Mensagem das Ruas in 2005.
Their song "Mensagem das Ruas" became a notable track for the band. The group's music drew from reggae, rock, and Brazilian folk rhythms, with lyrics that often addressed social themes.
They faced some criticism for their socially conscious approach, but continued recording through at least 2012 with the album Resistência Urbana.
