On l'avait pris pour un faisan.
Le Duc en déroute
Abat le casse-croûte,
Qu'un prêtre profane
Avait sous sa soutane.

On met sa civière près de la lisière.
Il prend l'escopette,
Trouve la gâchette,
Il vise, il tire, ainsi finit la carrière
Du Ministre des affaires étrangères.
Quand le vieillard crie «Hallali! Nous l'avons»
L'ambiance devient pesante.
On remet des notes de protestation
Extrêmenent violentes.
«Mais quoi qu'on en pense,
A cette distance,
Il faut reconnaître:
C'est un coup de maître»
Et d'ailleurs le ministre se raconte-t-on,
Fréquentait des membres de l'opposition.
La nuit tombe au château et la paix revient,
La fumée de poudre envolée.
Le Cardinal vient bénir le butin
De pauvre gibier fatigué:
La laie asthmatique,
Les canards phtisiques,
La chasse s'arrose,
Et puis on propose
D'offrir le butin, car on est généreux,
A l'orphelinat des Enfants du Bon Dieu.
