Rejane Olig

Rejane Olig came up in Fortaleza, Ceará, and started putting out music in the late 1970s. Her first album was called 'Alguém' in 1978, which included the title track that got some attention. She worked with guitarist and producer Roberto Menescal early on.

Her songs like 'Às Vezes' and 'Cachoeira' have a straightforward, melodic quality that fits with a certain strain of Brazilian popular music from that period. The writing tends to be personal, dealing with relationships and interior states rather than big statements.

She kept recording through the 1980s and into the 1990s, with albums like 'A Vida' in 1981 and 'Hoje' in 1985. There was another self-titled release in 1991 and 'De Corpo e Alma' in 2003. The work stayed consistent in its approach, vocal-focused, with clean arrangements.

Olig performed with various musicians over time, but the core sound remained hers. She wasn't part of any particular movement or scene, just a singer-songwriter making records when she could.
