Resistiré México formed in 1987, a group of university students who took their name from the Chilean protest song 'Resistiré.' The original lineup included Emiliano Marentes on vocals, Sergio Mancilla on guitar, Jorge Guevara on bass, and Salvador Moreno on drums.
Their music faced censorship and government harassment in those early years, with radio stations often banning their politically charged songs. Despite that, they developed a loyal following among Mexicans looking for music that spoke to the social and economic struggles of the time.
Their version of 'Resistiré' became a rallying cry, an anthem that offered both solace and defiance. The band's outspoken lyrics drew criticism from authorities and conservative groups, but they kept using their platform to address social issues throughout the late 1980s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
