Respiradouro formed in Salvador in the late 1990s with vocalist Fábio Sampaio, guitarists Felipe Cordeiro and Igor Tiúba, bassist Alexia Bomfim, and drummer Bruno Marques. They worked through early financial constraints before releasing their debut album 'Casa Velha' in 2004.
The title track 'Casa Velha' became a national hit in Brazil, a ballad about a crumbling home that connected with listeners. Other songs like 'Fita Foda-se' and 'Venta(o)' showed their range, mixing traditional Brazilian sounds with rock and pop elements.
Their lyrics sometimes carried political weight, challenging social norms, which brought them attention beyond just their music. They developed a following for their melancholic melodies and energetic rhythms without fitting neatly into any single genre.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
