Ressaca Samba formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1996 with Marcelo Timbó on vocals, Gordo on bass, and Marcionílio on drums. They started playing samba-reggae, a style that blends Brazilian percussion with Caribbean rhythms, and put out their self-titled debut album not long after.
