Reynaldo Bessa formed a trio in 2005 with bassist André Galdino and drummer Ricardo Peixoto in São Paulo. They built a following in the underground scene with a mix of rock, alternative, and classical influences. Their debut album 'Retrato do Beijo Quando Morto' included the title track that became a hit and earned Bessa critical attention.
That album's success took them on tours through Europe and the Americas. Bessa's lyrics often explored personal and sometimes difficult themes, which occasionally drew criticism. Songs like 'Terra, Água, Fogo e Ar' and 'Alfenin' continued his style of writing that felt direct and unguarded.
He kept working with the same trio format for years, releasing music that stayed grounded in São Paulo's music traditions while pulling from punk and MPB. The songs never lost that raw quality, even as they reached wider audiences.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
