Rhubarb formed in 2010 with Anya Petrova on vocals and rhythm guitar, Ben Carter on lead guitar, Luke Cooper on bass, and Ethan James on drums. Their name came from the vegetable. In 2013, their debut single "Caroline" gained attention for its haunting lyrics and ethereal harmonies, which helped establish their presence.
They released two studio albums, "Bloom" in 2015 and "Reverie" in 2018. Songs like "Do Do Do," "Exerciser," and "Kamikaze" show their range across indie rock and alternative styles, with Petrova's expressive vocals and Carter's atmospheric guitar work defining much of their sound.
In 2014, a former member filed a lawsuit alleging unfair treatment and financial issues, which was settled out of court. This brought some scrutiny, but the band continued working. Their music often leans into introspective themes without grand claims about its impact.
