Ricardo e Renato were a Brazilian duo from São Paulo who started making music in the early 1980s. Their sound mixed soft rock and pop with some bossa nova touches, and they had a hit with "Está Tudo Bem" in 1985. That song got some attention when people argued about whether it was about drug use, which the band denied.
They put out several albums through the 1980s and into the mid-1990s, including their self-titled debut in 1984 and a live record in 1994. Ricardo Cruz sang and played guitar, while Renato Teixeira wrote songs and handled guitar and piano. They worked with other Brazilian musicians like Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento at times.
Their music stayed pretty straightforward, melodic, gentle stuff that didn't chase trends. They kept at it for about three decades, mostly sticking to what they did well rather than reinventing themselves.
