Ricardo Rodrigues and Rodrigo Maranhão started performing together in the early 1980s, playing local bars and festivals around Rio de Janeiro. Their debut album came out in 1984, and it included the song that would define them: "Acho Chique." That track became a national hit in Brazil, with its simple melody and lyrics about wanting to seem sophisticated.
They kept making music through the 1980s and 1990s, putting out albums like "Frente a Frente" in 1986 and "Me Leva a Sério" in 1988. Other songs like "Arrochando Com Você" and "Livro Dos Amores" showed their range, moving between romantic ballads and more upbeat dance tracks. Their sound mixed Brazilian pop with elements of bossa nova and samba.
Personal issues sometimes drew attention away from their music, with rumors about their private lives circulating in the press. But they continued recording, releasing albums into the late 1990s including "15 Anos" in 1999. Ricardo played guitar and sang, while Rodrigo handled bass and vocals.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
