Rick Danko was a bass player and vocalist from Simcoe, Ontario who became a founding member of The Band in the 1960s. He played on their 1968 album 'Music from Big Pink' alongside Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, and Levon Helm. The group had originally backed Bob Dylan, who had been impressed by Danko's playing.
After The Band dissolved in 1976, Danko released a self-titled solo album in 1977. He continued to record music, including songs like 'Blaze Of Glory' and 'Caledonia Mission' that appear in his catalog. In 1990, he recorded 'Blaze of Glory' for the film 'Young Guns II,' a song he co-wrote with Jon Bon Jovi.
Danko died in 1999 at age 56. His work with The Band and his solo recordings remain part of the folk-rock landscape from that era.
