Background notes

Archive material and source history

Riff formed in Buenos Aires in 1980 with guitarist Pappo, drummer Vitico, bassist Michel Peyronel, and singer JAF. Their sound leaned toward hard rock and blues, with Pappo's guitar work becoming a recognizable feature. The lineup shifted over time, bringing in drummer Oscar Moro and singer Luciano Napolitano at different points.

In 1982 they released the album "Macadam 32," which included "Vergüenza Ajena." That song's title phrase, meaning other people's embarrassment, caught on, and its straightforward energy connected with listeners. Other tracks from their catalog include "No pasa nada en esta ciudad," "Debo seguir buscando," and "Macadam 3...2...1...0..."

They put out several albums through the '80s and early '90s, like "Riff VII," "Paladium 7," and "Que Sea Rock." The band dealt with some legal issues over music rights and rumors about internal problems, but they kept recording and playing shows. Their music, especially "Vergüenza Ajena," stayed in rotation on Argentine rock radio.
