RIM

RIM formed in Japan in the late 1990s, with Mio Hamano on vocals, Masami Akita handling electronics, and Yasuhiko Mori playing guitar. Their name translates to "lime," which hints at their unconventional approach. They built their sound from electronic beats, distorted guitars, and everyday objects like kitchenware and toys, with Hamano's ethereal voice floating through the mix.

Their debut album "Shokuchu Shokubutsu" came out in 2001 and developed a cult following. They followed it with records like "Ikiteru Ningyo" in 2003 and "Eupnea" in 2007. The band's abrasive, experimental style drew some criticism for being inaccessible, but they kept working with a steady group of collaborators and guest artists.

RIM's music avoided conventional boundaries, and their willingness to use non-traditional instruments and sounds influenced other artists exploring electronic and avant-garde territory. They built a loyal audience that appreciated their particular blend of experimentation and Hamano's distinctive vocal presence.
