Risoleta

Risoleta Alves da Conceição was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1915 and started singing professionally in local bars and clubs during the 1930s. Her voice had a sultry quality that caught attention in those early years.

She worked with the composer Pixinguinha, and together they recorded songs like "O Maxixe" in 1934. That track became her signature piece, with its suggestive lyrics and catchy melody making it a hit. Another song from their collaboration, "Os Olhos Azuis," also remains part of her recorded work.

Risoleta's style sometimes drew criticism from more conservative listeners who found her lyrics too risqué. She kept performing and recording through the 1930s and into the 1940s, with releases like "Carinhoso" in 1937.
