Risoleta Galvão was born in 1920 in Salvador, Bahia. She began performing in local clubs and festivals, developing her voice within traditional Brazilian rhythms. In the 1940s, she joined the radio program "Hora do Brasil," which helped bring her to a national audience.
Her debut album came out in 1950, simply titled "Risoleta Galvão." It featured her approach to samba, choro, and baiana styles. One of her best-known songs from this period is "Cenário de Vitória," which has remained in circulation long after its release.
She recorded several more albums in the early 1950s, including "Canta Para Você" in 1952 and "Deixa Falar" in 1954. Her work from this time shows a musician comfortable within the popular Brazilian forms of her era, without dramatic reinvention.
