River City Rebels started in Toronto around 2010, with Jeff Gunnell on vocals and guitar, Steve Harvey on drums, and Scott McDonald on bass. They put out a debut EP called 'On the Run' in 2012, which got some attention for its straightforward rock sound. By 2015, they had a second EP titled '22 Years', and that song in particular seemed to connect with people, getting radio play and leading to festival slots.
In 2016, Steve Harvey left the band and Mike Johnson took over on drums. A few years later, in 2019, Gunnell faced sexual assault allegations from a former employee, though the charges were eventually dropped. The band kept going after that, but the incident lingered around their name.
