River Road formed in the late 1990s as a folk-rock trio in the UK, with Jamie Scott on vocals and guitar, Jo Bartlett on violin and vocals, and Andy Taylor on bass. Their debut album 'A Day in the Life' came out in 2002, and the title track became their most recognizable song. That record established their sound with its melancholic ballads and introspective lyrics.
After Taylor left in 2006, Chris Hill joined on bass. Their second album 'The Distance' didn't connect the same way their debut had, but they kept working. By 2010, they'd released a third album called 'The Return' that leaned into more experimental territory with electronic and ambient touches.
Their catalog includes songs like 'As If You Didn't Know,' 'I Broke It, I'll Fix It,' and 'Listen To Her Tears.' The band's lineup remained Scott, Bartlett, and Hill through their later recordings.
