Rixxa

Rixxa formed in 2007 around vocalist Dorina, with musicians including Marcelinho Moreira on guitar and cavaquinho, Andre Carvalho on tamborim, and Beto Loco on surdo. They came together through connections to the Portela samba school in Rio de Janeiro, though they weren't strictly traditionalists. Their early work included songs like 'Portela 100 Primaveras' and 'Tambor' that showed their roots while hinting at something different.

They blended samba with rock, pop, and jazz elements, which caused some friction with more conservative parts of the samba community. But they kept at it, gradually building a following among listeners who appreciated their approach. Their debut album featured 'Portela 100 Primaveras' and other tracks that reflected both their traditional grounding and their willingness to experiment.

Other songs in their catalog, like 'A Criação do Mundo Na Tradição Nagô' and 'Império Serrano, Um Ato de Amor,' show their continued engagement with samba school themes and Brazilian musical traditions, even as they worked outside strict genre boundaries.
