Archive material and source history
Robert Plant first became known as the singer for Led Zeppelin, which formed in 1968. His voice was a central part of that band's sound on songs like "Kashmir" and "Going to California." After Led Zeppelin ended in 1980, he started making his own records. Albums like "Pictures at Eleven" from 1982 and "Fate of Nations" from 1993 showed him working with different styles, including some blues and Americana touches.
Some of his solo songs, like "Big Log" and "29 Palms," found their own audience separate from the Zeppelin years. He kept singing after a serious respiratory infection in 1975 that temporarily affected his voice, and he continued recording and performing with a slightly different range. Plant has never really stopped making music, though he's avoided simply repeating what he did with Led Zeppelin.
