Roberto Vidal

Roberto Vidal came from Madalena in Ceará, Brazil, where he grew up hearing northeastern folk music. As a teenager, he read poets like Patativa do Assaré and Antônio Gonçalves da Silva, which shaped how he approached writing songs.

His debut album in 1995 was called "A Dor de Mais Um," and the title track became a hit. That song, along with others like "Aquellos quince años" and "Delantal de colegio," helped establish him with a sound that felt direct and unadorned.

In the early 2000s, there were some accusations of plagiarism that caused a stir, but Vidal denied them and kept recording. He put out albums fairly regularly through that decade, including "Volta pra Mim" in 1997 and "O Amor Que Não Foi" in 2000.

He performs with a band that has included Rômulo Santos on bass, Zeca Viana on drums, and Rogério Rodrigues on keyboards. The song "A Dor de Mais Um" is still the one most people know him by.
