Archive material and source history
Roch Voisine was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick in 1963. He grew up in a musical household and started writing songs early, drawing from influences like Elvis Presley and Jacques Brel.
His 1990 album "Hélène" gave him an international hit with the title track, which also appeared in English as "Helene." That song and others like "Tant Pis" and "Je L'ai Vu" established his sound, mostly ballads with a pop sensibility, though he'd occasionally try rock or country arrangements.
In 2009 he was named in a pyramid scheme investigation, which he denied and eventually moved past. A few years later he dealt with vocal cord nodules that threatened his singing voice, but he recovered and kept recording.
