Rocío Dúrcal was born María de los Ángeles de las Heras Ortiz in Madrid in 1944. She started performing on radio and television as a child, and took the stage name Rocío Dúrcal, which means 'dewdrops from the valley.' Her career shifted in 1965 when she was cast in the film 'Más Bonita Que Ninguna,' playing the lead singer of a mariachi band.
In 1974 she recorded 'Amor Eterno,' a ballad written by Juan Gabriel. The song became a classic in Latin America. She worked with other artists like Vicente Fernández and Luis Miguel, and had hits including 'Déjame Vivir (con Juan Gabriel)' and 'Fue Tan Poco Tu Cariño.'
She was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2005 and died the following year at age 61.
