Rodnei Bastos

Rodnei Bastos came from the plains of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, where his music drew on gaucho traditions. His song 'Tordilho Colorado' became something of an anthem in the southern grasslands, recorded in 1977. He started performing at local festivals early on.

He released several albums through the late 1970s and 1980s, including 'Terra Quente' in 1979 and 'Cantos e Contos do Nativo' in 1986. His work sometimes blended folk, gaucho, and rock elements. He collaborated with artists like Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento.

His band has included musicians such as Saulo Bernardi on guitar, João Carlos de Souza on bass, and Edson Moura on accordion. They toured regularly. Bastos is often mentioned in connection with música gaúcha.
