In the late 1960s, Elzer formed the band The Blue Jays with several friends. Their 1971 single "Mandy" became an international hit, with its melody and lyrics about heartbreak resonating with audiences. The song topped charts in multiple countries.
After The Blue Jays disbanded in the mid-1970s, Elzer continued as a solo artist, releasing albums like "My Lady" in 1973 and "Paper Ships" in 1975. He passed away in 1980 at age 33.
