Rodney Jerkins was born in Minneapolis in 1978. He started making music early, playing drums and keyboards, and formed a band called Darkchild with his brother Fred Jerkins III.
In the mid-1990s, Dallas Austin noticed Darkchild and brought them in to work on Phil Collins' "Another Day in Paradise." After that, Jerkins produced tracks for Whitney Houston, Brandy, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey.
He put out his first solo album in 2015, which included the single "Come Together" with Chris Brown and Ludacris.
