Rodney Vieira came up in Cajazeiras, Paraíba, where he grew up hearing the local forró and sertanejo music. He joined the Forró Boyz band in 1998, and his voice started getting noticed around Brazil. In 2005, he put out "Beija Flor," a song about a hummingbird that became his calling card. That track, along with others like "Feliz" and "Lágrimas," helped define his sound.
After "Beija Flor" took off, he toured widely, playing for Brazilian communities abroad who connected with his music. There was a public dispute with another musician in 2007 that led to a break, but he returned to performing not long after. He kept recording and playing shows, sticking with the regional styles he came up with.
