Rodrigo e Luis started playing together in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s. Rodrigo Leite sang, and Luis Américo played guitar. Their 2003 single "Treme Aê" became a hit, and they put out an album with the same name the following year.
They mixed samba with funk and pop, which gave their music a particular bounce. After "Treme Aê," they released albums like "O Baile" in 2006 and "Nação Sambafunk" in 2008. That 2008 record won them a couple of Latin Grammys.
In 2007, there was some talk about their song "Hoje Eu Tô Solteiro" sounding too much like another track. They said it wasn't true, but it came up. They kept putting out music into the 2010s with albums like "Nosso Samba É Funk."
