Rodrigo e Ricardo

Rodrigo e Ricardo were a Brazilian duo who started working together in the early 1970s. Their 1976 album 'A Matéria É Te Amar' gave them their biggest hit with the title track, a song that became a standard for romantic devotion. They released several albums through the early 1980s, including 'Só Pensando em Você' and 'Marcas do Tempo'.

Their music was built around acoustic guitars and straightforward, heartfelt lyrics. Songs like 'Assume Que Sou Eu' and 'Cinco Minutos' followed a similar pattern of direct emotional expression. They wrote their own material, with Rodrigo handling lead vocals and Ricardo providing backing.

At times, their introspective style didn't quite fit with the more commercial expectations of the Brazilian music industry. In the 1980s, a song called 'O Canto da Cidade' drew attention for its depiction of urban hardship, which some found too politically charged for the duo's usual romantic focus.

They kept recording into the 1980s with albums like 'Canções para Sempre', but their core work remains those gentle, acoustic love songs from the 1970s.
