Roger Miret And The Disasters

Roger Miret and the Disasters formed in 1982 with Miret on vocals, guitarist Dave Insurgent, bassist Rich Morales, and drummer Paul Bearer. They came out of New York City's punk scene, where Miret had already been active. Their debut album '1984' arrived in 1985, and its title track became one of their better-known songs.

That album's sound mixed hardcore punk with some Latin rhythms, which gave it a different texture than a lot of what was happening at the time. Other tracks like 'Boys Will Be Boys' and 'Give 'Em The Boot' showed their straightforward, aggressive approach. They kept recording through the late '80s and into the '90s, putting out albums like 'First and Last and Always' and 'Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit.'

Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being confrontational or bleak, which Miret generally shrugged off as just reflecting what he saw around him. The band never really broke through to a massive audience, but they maintained a steady presence in punk circles for years, playing shows and putting out records without much fuss.
