Día martes en la tarde
fiesta 'e Nuestra Señora
murieron dos mil personas
de votar a nuestra maire.
En un fuego lamentable
se oyen gritos y lamentos
porque las luces del templo
al punto se corrompieron.
Todos los fieles perdieron
el año mil ochocientos.
Cuando el altar se prendió,
también la Virgen María,
salió por la sacristía
la más gente que libró.
Y como el fuego abrasó
por to'a la re'ondez
al culto ya dieron fe
y salieron por la puerta.
Qué terrible fue esa fiesta
fecha del sesenta y tres.
Un pobre anciano llegó
a la puerta en su caballo,
tomó su lazo en la mano,
para a'entro lo tiró.
Con perfección lo nombró
y repitió en el momento.
Se agarraron más de cientos
y el lazo se le cortó.
Llorando a gritos quedó
en el incendio 'el templo.
Los que libraron con ví'a
oyen el triste clamor
y para mayor dolor
sienten tocar a agonía.
Qué fatal la Compañía,
de nuevo la nombraré
y también lisonjearé
las obras espirituales
y para mayor pesares
Chile de luto se ve.
