Roman Candle

Roman Candle formed in 2004 around songwriter Max Hart, bassist John Conley, and drummer Luke Sasich. Their debut album 'The Heavens' came out the following year, followed by two more studio albums over the next six years. The band's sound often blended folk elements with atmospheric electronics, heard on tracks like 'Big Light' and 'A Heartbeat'.

'Big Light' became their most recognizable song after its release in 2007. It's a slow, atmospheric piece that helped define their early sound. Other songs from their catalog, like 'Another Summer' and 'Baby's Got It in The Genes,' show a similar preference for melodic, introspective writing.

By 2012, Hart announced the band was going on hiatus. They had released three albums, 'The Heavens' in 2005, 'Oh, the Joys of Love' in 2009, and 'A Distant Fire' in 2011, along with a couple of EPs. The lineup included additional members like Laura Burhenn and Matt Bowen at various points, but Hart, Conley, and Sasich remained the core.
